The government on Sunday appointed additional inspector general of police Khandker Golam Faruq as the new commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police.

The Public Security Division of home ministry in a notification said that the government order would come into effect from, October 29.

Golam Faruq is now serving as the rector at the Police Staff College Bangladesh.

He is a member of the 12th BCS batch.

He began his professional career as a member of Bangladesh Civil Service (Police) on January 20, 1991.

Golam Faruq obtained his Honors in BSc (Agriculture) from Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka and Master’s Degree in Political Science from the Asian University of Bangladesh.

The present DMP commissioner Md Shafiqul Islam will retire from government services on October 30.
